Below are different permalink examples for journals, open access journals, ebooks, etc.
Oxford uses a DOI (digital object identifier) for its permanent URLs.
Example 1: Oxford Journals
1. The DOI for the article below is incomplete by itself - 10.1093/icb/ics082
2. It will need the DOI prefix -- http://dx.doi.org
3. Put that together and you have: http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/icb/ics082
4. You will also need to add the SJSU library's proxy prefix in front of the DOI URL -- http://libaccess.sjlibrary.org/login?url=
5. Finished! http://libaccess.sjlibrary.org/login?url=http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/icb/ics082
6. You may use the URL in the address bar as a permalink but, it is RECOMMENDED to use the DOI. Remember to include the Library proxy prefix.
http://libaccess.sjlibrary.org/login?url=http://icb.oxfordjournals.org/content/52/4/497.full
Example 2. Oxford OPEN ACCESS journals
The Library Proxy URL is not needed for open access journals. One less step for you!
1. The DOI for the article below is incomplete by itself - 10.1093/jla/las017
2. It will need the DOI prefix -- http://dx.doi.org
3. Put that together and you have: http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/jla/las017
4. You may use the URL in the address bar as a permalink but, it is RECOMMENDED to use the DOI.
Example 3: Oxford ebooks
With ebooks, you have two choices to select from to create a permalink that works on and off campus.
Use the record in OneSearch:
Use the permalink in the record
The second example for creating a permalink for an Oxford ebook is to use the URL from the address bar.
The Library Proxy URL will need to be added to the URL.
