Policy

San Jose State University Library’s 3D printer is available for free to all SJSU students, faculty, and staff. 

The library’s 3D printers may be used only for lawful purposes. SJSU students, faculty, and staff will not be permitted to use the Library’s 3D printers to create material that are:

  1. Prohibited by local, state, or federal law
  2. Unsafe, harmful, dangerous, or pose an immediate threat to the well-being of others
  3. Obscene or otherwise inappropriate for the library environment, at the discretion of the library dean (any appeals on the judgment of a print may be made to the library's dean)
  4. In violation of another’s intellectual property rights. For example, the printers will not be used to reproduce material that is subject to copyright, patent, or trademark protection.

Copyright and other Intellectual Property Restrictions

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material.

Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement.

This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying/scanning order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright or other intellectual property laws.

By submitting your files to librarytechtrainer@sjsu.edu you are acknowledging and agreeing to the following statements:

  • I have read, understand, and will comply with the notice posted above. 
  • I grant permission to San Jose State University's Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library to reproduce the photocopy or other reproduction and return it to me, and I have the legal right and authority to grant this permission. 
  • I will not use the reproduction for any commercial purpose or allow any third party to do so.
