California Adopted Instructional Materials World Languages

CDE-World Languages: Information that focuses on developing the highest levels of world language proficiency (also referred to as foreign language) in California students.

Update 10/03/2019:

The CDE is developing the World Languages Framework for California Public Schools, Kindergarten Through Grade Twelve (WL Framework) to incorporate and support the 2019 WL Standards, which were adopted by the SBE in January 2019. This draft WL Framework is now posted at the following CDE website: may submit public comment for consideration by the IQC and the SBE via the WL Framework Online Survey, a link to which is posted at the same above site.


Development of a new World Languages (WL) Curriculum Framework is progressing. The 20-member World Languages Curriculum Framework and Evaluation Criteria Committee will continue its work through August 2019. Two additional 60-day public comment periods will occur October–November 2019 and February–March 2020. The SBE will take action on the draft WL Framework in May 2020. Subsequently the SBE and CDE will conduct a WL instructional materials adoption throughout 2021.
