Welcome to Database Search Strategies Tutorial

This tutorial can be used by both students and instructors. You will find quizzes and activities that go along with each section of the tutorial. The objectives of this tutorial are:

  • To demonstrate search strategies that can be used to efficiently retrieve relevant information. These search strategies can be used to search library databases, as well as search engines. 
  • To highlight features specific to Engineering Village, Web of Science, and IEEE Xplore.
  • To share methods that can be used to verify whether an article is peer-reviewed.
  • To teach parts of a typical citation of an information source. 
  • To demonstrate ways to avoid plagiarism.
