Q. What's included in the SJSU subscription?
A. Access to New York Times articles, interactive graphics, videos, and podcasts, plus digitized images of the paper from 1851-2002. The NYTimes in Education site is included but requires a separate account. NYT Cooking and NYT Crosswords are not included.
Q. What if I already have a personal NY Times subscription?
A. You will first need to cancel your paid subscription by contacting NYT Customer Care (instructions here). After you have cancelled the subscription, register for SJSU digital access by going to Access NYT for SJSU. Instead of creating a new account, click on "Already have an account? Log in here." Then enter your existing personal username & password. Your existing account will be automatically associated with the SJSU subscription.
If you wish to keep your existing personal account (and just cancel the paid subscription), we suggest changing the email address on your current account to something other than your SJSU email address before canceling. That will allow you to activate your SJSU account 24 hours afterward. The NYTimes system recognizes only one unique email address per active account.
Q. Can I download PDFs of the digitized historical NY Times?
A. Yes, digital images of the NY Times from 1851-2002 are available in the Times Machine. However, PDF downloads are limited to 5 per user, per day (so choose wisely).
Q. How do I reactivate my account if it has expired?
A. Go through the SJSU Access NYT link again, or visit AccessNYT.com and search for San Jose State University. On the registration page, click the "Already have an account? Log in here" link. You will see an on-screen confirmation that your access has been reactivated with a new expiration date.
Q. What if I'm having trouble creating an account?
A. Contact edu@nytimes.com.
