Submitting a Digitization Request (New UI)
1. Add Items to Your Reading List:
- From the top-left corner of your list, click +Add > New item.
- Then select Search the Library.
- Search the library’s catalog for physical items you wish to digitize, using the San Jose State Collections scope for accurate results (e.g., books, chapters, or journal articles).
- Once you find the resource, click Add to place it in your reading list.
- You’ll be greeted with a pop up window asking to indicate a loan period for the resource. Options are 2 hr, 1 Day, 3 Day, Digitize pages or chapters, and None of the above. Provide citation only.
- Select Digitize pages or chapters, then click Ok when done.
2. Request Digitization:
- Once the desired item is added to your list, click the item's Title within the list.
- On the next window, towards the bottom, select Request Digitization.
- A dialog box will appear asking for specific details, such as page ranges, chapters, and whether the request includes images. You can also add any additional notes for the library staff.
3. Submit the Request:
- After filling in the necessary details (e.g., chapter numbers or page ranges to digitize), specify the time frame for when the digital copies will be available to students.
- Once everything is complete, click Send to send the digitization request to the library for processing.
4. Restrictions and Processing Time:
- Remember, due to copyright restrictions, no more than 10% of a book or 50 pages may be requested for digitization.
- Allow a minimum of 5 business days for processing the request.
