SJSU ScholarWorks

All about SJSU ScholarWorks, SJSU's institutional repository, and Open Access for university community members

What is SelectedWorks?

SelectedWorks functions as a companion author gallery to SJSU ScholarWorks. To see how SJSU ScholarWorks and SelectedWorks combine to display your work and make it more accessible and easier to discover, follow the links below.

Why SelectedWorks?

SelectedWorks helps faculty, staff and students manage their research and creative work. SelectedWorks pages attract new readers with a search engine optimized Web site and allow faculty to organize work by custom categories.

Faculty members can upload different formats like multimedia or PDFs, and delegate site editing to someone else, like a graduate assistant. SelectedWorks pages allow you to announce and dissimenate research work to colleagues and students and to follow your colleagues' work.

You can access your site from anywhere and transfer your site to another institution. Faculty can track readership by generating reports and customize your site to represent your style.

Getting a new SelectedWorks profile & updating an existing one

Over 350 SJSU faculty members have SelectedWorks faculty profiles. See the dozens of other unversities that offer their faculty SelectedWorks including Yale University, Boston College of Law and the University of Texas.  To have your own faculty profile in SelectedWorks, just send your CV and a photograph to scholarworks@sjsu.edu. We will check and clear copyright permissions with the copyright holder before posting any full-text publications into SJSU ScholarWorks.

If you already have a faculty profile, it's a good idea to send us your CV every time you update it. Email your CV to scholarworks@sjsu.edu and we will update your author profile. Contact Emily Chan at the King Library. We will be happy to create your profile in SelectedWorks or update your existing one.

How we check copyright

We research copyright permissions for every citation using SHERPA/RoMEO and other avenues to locate the copyright holder and follows publishers' policies before we upload any published work. See which publishers allow authors to deposit their PDFs in repositories hereMany faculty now check funders' open access polices before applying for grants or funds to see whether or when they will be able to deposit their research in their university's repository. Read more in this article, "Will They Let Me Do That? A Brief Introduction to Copyright and Institutional Repositories" by Harrison W. Inefuku of Iowa State University.
